What do you do on the Adventures?
The Adventures last about 3 hours and that time is split evenly between hiking or swimming and off-leash playtime. Our adventures are made up of small groups of 9-15 dogs with 2 Human Adventurers supervising and they are allowed to be dogs in the outdoors. We work on recall and leash training, as well as helping puppies learn to play correctly by supervising the off-leash play. We also take tons of photos so you can see just how much fun your pup has. We’ve been told our adventure dogs get excited the morning of their adventure day because they know the schedule and they know soon we’ll be picking them up to go have a load of fun!

Where do you go on these Adventures?
Sometimes, we go to local parks to hike trails and then to a local fenced-in area to have off-leash play. Or we may go to ‘Bout the Petz in Advance, a wonderful boarding facility operated by Jodi Oscar, that has large, grassy areas to run on; a private pond to swim in; and woods to hike in.

Does my dog need to be evaluated for Doggy Adventures?
Yes. If we have never met your dog, we do require an initial evaluation before your dog's first Adventure. The evaluation involves having your pup meet one of our regular Adventure dogs and monitoring their interaction. This initial introduction will help us determine whether or not your pup will be comfortable in the adventure setting. The majority of dogs do just fine on our Adventures, because they are based outside with a ton of land to run and play on. All first-timers are segregated in the car, so as to make them more comfortable on their first Adventure trip. To schedule an evaluation, please contact us here: info@3pooches.com

Does my dog need to be vaccinated?
Yes. Your dog will need to be up to date on vaccinations, although we do accept vaccine titers, as well. Your dog will be in the vicinity of and playing with other dogs.

Does my dog need to be spayed or neutered?
In most cases, yes. But there are always exceptions to the rule. We will be glad to do a trial run with your pup with a few dogs and go from there. In our experience, it is usually some of the neutered males that have issues with intact males.

My dog doesn't walk great on a leash. Can he/she still go on a Doggy Adventure?
Yes. We've found that while hiking in a pack, the dogs will match each other's strides and the other dogs will keep him/her on an even keel. We do have a lot of off-leash playtime, as well, so the entire time will not be spent on the leash. We also have several dog backpacks and no-pull harnesses we are able to use if your dog is a huge puller. If you’d like us to use one of those on the adventure hike, please let us know in advance.

My dog is not good around certain dogs. Can he/she still go?
It depends on the initial evaluation. Dogs are like people and of course, they might find a dog they don’t “like” that they don’t behave mannerly around. There could be several factors at play when they see this certain dog and it in no way means they are not a social dog. Our adventures are structured in a way so we have consistent playgroups and hiking and swimming partners, which in turn offers stability and balance for most dogs. We've found that some dogs that become nervous at the dog park or don't enjoy the large number of dogs at a doggie daycare facility do quite well on the Adventures and make friends fairly easily because the majority of our time is spent outdoors with things to do.

Do you pick up in Greensboro and Winston Salem?
Yes. Our transport area includes most of Winston Salem and Greensboro. Just email us to see if your area is included.

Do you have a limit to how many you take on the Adventures?
Yes. We are full most weeks, especially for the Medium/Large group, so make your reservation early if you’d like to have your pup included. When we are at ‘Bout the Petz, we do offer a drop-off/pick up option there.
